MOVING DAY FOR MOM
During late April 1988 I and a friend of mine from Florence, SC moved Mom into her brand new Myrtle Beach home. Her sister, my Aunt Marjorie, had brought her van from Lumberton, NC. We must have made five or six trips back and forth from the Circle 8 Road area of Socastee. Twenty-seven short years later it was moving day again for Mom during late October 2016. This was her first home alone after sending six kids out into the world - four of whom came back to stay at one time or another for an extended period of time. For many years we lived in USAF military housing moving from place to place until 1973. Since then Socastee, a community outside Myrle Beach, SC, was called home.
She was proud of her home. We helped her dig to plant shrubbery, and build her a walkway, and erected a shed out back. She bought vinyl siding and a new roof eventually and planted two trees out front.
